OCIA

Are you interested in becoming Catholic or learning more about the Catholic faith? The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the process through which adults learn about the teachings, beliefs, and life of the Catholic Church while discerning God's call in their lives.

Our OCIA program begins each September and continues through the Easter season, with participants receiving the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. Classes are held every other Sunday evening from 4:00-7:00 p.m., and dinner is provided.

What is Christian Initiation?

The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is the process through which adults prepare to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and the Holy Eucharist, becoming fully initiated into the Catholic Church. Depending upon each person's circumstances, participants may receive one or more of these sacraments during the Easter Vigil or the Easter season.

What is Involved in OCIA?

OCIA is a journey of faith and formation that includes biweekly gatherings throughout the school year. During these sessions, participants explore the teachings of the Catholic Church, Sacred Scripture, prayer, the sacraments, Catholic morality, and what it means to live as a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Participants are encouraged to develop a regular life of prayer, attend Mass each week, and grow in their relationship with Christ as they prepare for the various rites and sacraments celebrated throughout the OCIA process.

Who Can Participate?

OCIA is open to any adult who is interested in learning more about the Catholic faith. This includes those whom:

• Have never been baptized.
• Were baptized in another Christian denomination and are interested in becoming Catholic.
• Were baptized Catholic but have not yet received First Holy Communion and/or Confirmation.
• Are simply curious about the Catholic Church and would like to learn more before making any decisions.
